Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Phloem ("the Extension") is a browser extension developed by Canopy HQ, LLC ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Extension.

We built Phloem with privacy as a core principle. Your AI conversations are personal, and we believe you should own them completely.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

Let's be clear about what we don't do:

• We do not collect your conversations. All AI conversations captured by Phloem are stored locally on your device.
• We do not have access to your data. We cannot read, view, or retrieve your stored conversations.
• We do not sell data. We have no data to sell.
• We do not track your browsing. The Extension only activates on supported AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini).
• We do not use analytics by default. No Google Analytics, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting.

3. Information Stored Locally

The Extension stores the following information on your device only:

• Conversations: Text content from your AI chats on supported platforms
• Metadata: Conversation titles, timestamps, and source platform
• Settings: Your Extension preferences

This data is stored using the Phloem desktop application's local database (SQLite) on your computer. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export it.

4. Optional Telemetry

If you opt in to anonymous telemetry (disabled by default), we may collect:

• Extension version
• Operating system type (not version)
• Feature usage counts (not content)
• Error reports (without conversation data)

This telemetry helps us improve the Extension. It contains no personally identifiable information and no conversation content. You can disable it anytime in Extension settings.

5. Phloem Pro (Cloud Sync)

If you subscribe to Phloem Pro and enable cloud sync:

• Your conversations are encrypted end-to-end before leaving your device
• We cannot read your synced data (zero-knowledge encryption)
• You can delete your cloud data at any time
• Cloud sync is entirely optional

Cloud sync requires a separate account and explicit opt-in. The free version of Phloem is fully functional without any cloud features.

6. Third-Party Services

The Extension interacts with:

• ChatGPT (OpenAI): We read conversation content from the page DOM
• Claude (Anthropic): We read conversation content from the page DOM
• Gemini (Google): We read conversation content from the page DOM

We do not send any data to these services. We only read what's already displayed on your screen.

7. Data Security

Your local data is protected by:

• Your operating system's file permissions
• Your device's encryption (if enabled)
• The Phloem desktop app's access controls

We recommend enabling full-disk encryption on your device for maximum security.

8. Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: View all stored data through the Phloem app
• Export: Export your data in standard formats (JSON, Markdown)
• Delete: Delete any or all stored conversations
• Portability: Your data is stored in open formats you can read

9. Children's Privacy

Phloem is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We will notify users of significant changes through:

• Extension update notes
• Our website
• Email (if you've subscribed to updates)
